Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki suggested that Vice President Harris’s loss to President-elect Trump was partly due to disinformation spread on platforms lacking fact-checking mechanisms. Speaking on Katie Couric’s Next Question podcast, Psaki contrasted these platforms with the higher accountability standards of local and national television.

“Local TV is held to a higher standard of accountability than social media platforms… That is crazy,” Psaki said, adding that legal reforms are needed to address this issue, though she admitted not having a complete solution.

She emphasized the importance of Democrats using non-traditional media to reach voters, referencing Trump’s appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast. Psaki called Rogan’s platform a relatable outlet that contributed to Trump’s appeal, noting that the episode garnered over 50 million views on YouTube. Rogan had also invited Harris, but she declined, reportedly due to concerns from progressive staff, according to Democratic strategist Jennifer Palmieri.
