Protesters who confronted Vice President JD Vance over the Russia-Ukraine war in Cincinnati on Saturday are disputing his claim that they “chased” him and his 3-year-old daughter.
“No one was chasing him,” protester Ann Henry told WCPO Cincinnati, saying they bumped into him rather than seeking him out.
Vance posted on X that he engaged with pro-Ukraine demonstrators to convince them to leave his child alone, calling the interaction “mostly respectful” but adding, “if you’re chasing a 3-year-old as part of a political protest, you’re a s— person.”
Video shared with WCPO shows protesters asking Vance about the war, accusing the Trump administration of “selling out” Ukraine after a U.S.-Ukraine rare minerals deal collapsed following Trump’s heated meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Vance defended Trump’s stance, insisting, “We’re actually forcing a diplomatic settlement.” Henry said she appreciated the discussion but wished Vance hadn’t misrepresented the encounter online.
