Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D) accused President Donald Trump of “suffering dementia” and abusing federal power by deploying troops to Chicago. In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, Pritzker said Trump’s repeated focus on the city stems from “something in the recesses of his brain,” calling the president “unhinged” and a “wannabe dictator.”
Pritzker’s remarks came after Trump called for him and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) to be jailed for allegedly failing to protect federal officers. “If you come for my people, you come through me. So, come and get me,” Pritzker told MSNBC.
The Trump administration recently federalized up to 300 Illinois National Guard troops and directed 400 from Texas to Chicago and other cities, despite lawsuits by Illinois and Oregon officials. White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson defended the move, labeling Pritzker “an incompetent slob” who “has blood on his hands” for rising violent crime in Chicago.
