In an interview with BET News, President Joe Biden indicated he would consider exiting the presidential race if advised by a doctor. Biden, who has faced concerns over his age, emphasized his capability and wisdom, asserting his track record of getting things done for the country. Despite acknowledging his reluctance to step down, Biden acknowledged the advice of medical professionals would heavily influence his decision.
Biden’s doctor declared him “fit for duty” in February, but his age remains a contentious issue among Democrats. Concerns intensified after a recent debate where Biden struggled to articulate his points clearly. Additionally, a neurologist specializing in Parkinson’s disease has visited the White House multiple times since last summer, though the specifics of these visits remain undisclosed.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre refused to confirm details about the specialist’s visits but reiterated Biden’s health is closely monitored. Dr. Kevin O’Connor, Biden’s physician, clarified that doctor visits encompass various health checks, not just examinations of the president.
A recent poll conducted from July 11-15 revealed that two-thirds of Democrats want Biden to drop out of the race, with only three out of ten expressing strong confidence in his mental capability to serve effectively. Despite these concerns, Biden remains committed, stating he would withdraw only if it became clear he could not win, a scenario he believes is not supported by current polling data.
