An Economist/YouGov poll released Wednesday found that only 26% of U.S. adults say they trust Kennedy’s medical advice at least “somewhat,” compared to 48% who say they distrust him. In contrast, 79% of respondents said they trust their own doctors, and 51% trust guidance from the CDC, despite recent controversies.

Kennedy’s tenure at HHS has drawn criticism following the ouster of CDC Director Susan Monarez and a wave of policy changes under his “Make America Health Again” (MAHA) agenda. These moves include removing vaccine advisers, firing public health workers, and cutting research funding — decisions former CDC leaders warn are harming national health.

Overall, 45% of respondents disapprove of Kennedy’s job performance, and only 37% view him favorably. Kennedy, a former environmental lawyer and longtime vaccine skeptic, was appointed to the post after dropping his 2024 presidential bid and endorsing Trump.

HHS declined to comment on the poll results. The survey of 1,691 adults was conducted Aug. 29–Sept. 3 and has a margin of error of ±3.4 points.
