Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani holds a commanding lead over former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who is running as an independent, in the New York City mayoral race, according to a Manhattan Institute poll released one week before Election Day. The survey found Mamdani at 43%, Cuomo at 28%, and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa at 19%, with 8% undecided.

A separate Suffolk University poll showed a narrower margin — Mamdani 44%, Cuomo 34%, Sliwa 11% — but both polls confirm Mamdani’s frontrunner status. Early voting is already underway, with the ballot locked even as some candidates, including Mayor Eric Adams, have suspended their campaigns.

Mamdani’s platform centers on affordability and public transit, including fare-free city buses funded by higher taxes on corporations and wealthy residents. However, 58% of respondents opposed the fare-free proposal, citing concerns about misuse and reduced service funding.

While voters were divided on social programs, 53% supported raising corporate taxes to fund city initiatives. The poll of 600 likely voters was conducted October 22–26 with a ±4% margin of error.
