A new CBS/YouGov poll shows growing opposition among Americans to sending military aid to Ukraine, with 51% against continued support and 49% in favor. The survey, conducted from Nov. 19 to 22 among 2,232 U.S. adults, highlights a shift in sentiment since April when 53% supported aid.
The poll reveals partisan divisions: 72% of Democrats back military assistance, while 64% of Republicans oppose it. Ideological differences are also apparent, with 74% of liberals supporting aid and 65% of conservatives against it.
Demographic splits include:
- Men: 50% for, 50% against.
- Women: 52% against, 48% for.
- Black Americans: 52% support aid, 48% oppose.
- Hispanic Americans: 54% oppose, 46% support.
- White Americans: Evenly split at 50%.
The sentiment shift comes nearly three years into the war, which began in February 2022 when Russia invaded Ukraine. Recent escalations include North Korean troops joining Russia’s efforts, Ukraine receiving U.S.-made long-range missiles, and Russian use of hypersonic missiles coupled with nuclear threats.
