As President Trump marks 100 days in office with a rally in Michigan, new polling shows declining support across every 2024 swing state. Michigan, where Trump is appearing Tuesday, has seen economic turbulence linked to his trade tariffs, including a 1.3% unemployment jump in March, pushing the state rate to 5.5%.

Automaker Stellantis halted production at plants in Canada and Mexico following a 25% tariff on imported vehicles, temporarily laying off 900 U.S. workers. Industry leaders warned that tariffs on imported auto parts could raise vehicle prices and cause further job losses.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the administration would ease some auto-related tariffs to support domestic manufacturers.

A Civiqs poll shows Trump’s approval rating below 50% in all key swing states, including Michigan (45%), Pennsylvania (44%), and Wisconsin (46%). Nationally, a CNN poll pegs Trump’s overall approval at 41%, with 39% approval on the economy.

Speaker Mike Johnson said such turbulence is expected early in a presidency, calling Trump the most “consequential president of the modern era.”
