According to a Gallup poll, 40% of registered voters in the U.S. plan to vote early in the 2024 election. However, a 15-point gap exists between parties, with 46% of Democrats, 31% of Republicans, and 43% of independents indicating they will vote before Election Day.
Early voting trends have risen steadily since 2004 and reached new highs in 2012 and 2020. The poll also highlights that older voters are more likely to vote early, with 51% of those aged 65 and older planning to do so, compared to 34% of voters under 50.
In-person voting remains the top choice for 69% of voters, while 21% plan to vote by mail. A notable partisan divide exists in mail-in voting preferences, with 27% of Democrats planning to vote by mail, compared to 13% of Republicans.
The survey was conducted from September 16-28 among 941 registered voters, with a margin of error of ±4 percentage points.
