Supporters of Joe Biden and Donald Trump have differing political values, but both agree on criticisms of the U.S. economic system, according to a Pew Research Center survey conducted April 8-14, 2024, with 8,709 adults, including 7,166 registered voters.
The survey reveals:
- Biden Supporters: 85% believe the economic system unfairly favors powerful interests; 84% say major corporations have too much power, and 82% think corporations make excessive profits.
- Trump Supporters: 62% think the economic system favors powerful interests, 65% say corporations hold too much power, and they are split on corporate profits (48% too much, 51% fair).
Age and Income Differences Among Trump Supporters
- Age: 71% of Trump supporters aged 18-49 believe the system favors powerful interests, compared to 56% of those 50 and older.
- Income: 70% of lower-income and 65% of middle-income Trump supporters see the system as unfair, while 55% of upper-income supporters view it as fair.
Stability in Views Since 2019
Since 2019, the belief that the economic system unfairly favors powerful interests has remained strong:
- Overall: 74% of U.S. adults in 2024, up from 71% in 2021.
- Democrats and Democratic-leaners: 85% consistently believe the system is unfair.
- Republicans and Republican-leaners: 62% in 2024, up from 52% in 2019.
