Washington, D.C. — President Donald Trump’s job approval rating has fallen to 37 percent, according to a new survey released Thursday by the Pew Research Center, with more than two-thirds of Americans saying they disapprove of how he is handling the presidency.

The poll shows Trump’s approval dropped three percentage points since last fall. While support among Republicans remains relatively strong at 73 percent, that figure has also slipped slightly since September. Disapproval is near-universal among Democrats, with 94 percent saying they disapprove of Trump’s performance, while just 5 percent expressed approval. Among Republicans, 25 percent said they disapprove.

Public sentiment about the administration’s direction has also deteriorated. Half of respondents said Trump’s actions since returning to office last year have been worse than they expected, compared with 21 percent who said they were better. About one-quarter said the administration’s actions matched expectations. Support for Trump’s policy agenda has declined as well, with only 27 percent saying they back all or most of his policies, down from 35 percent last year, a drop driven largely by Republicans.

Confidence in Trump’s leadership, ethics, and fitness for office has also fallen. Pew found an eight-point decline since early 2025 in overall confidence that Trump acts ethically, including a notable drop among Republicans. The poll was conducted amid growing controversy over immigration enforcement and followed closely after two fatal federal law enforcement shootings in Minneapolis, which have intensified political backlash and congressional resistance.
