Pete Hegseth, selected by President-elect Trump to lead the Pentagon, is under scrutiny for a sexual assault accusation from 2017. Hegseth, a former Fox News host and Army veteran, settled with the accuser but maintains the encounter was consensual, according to his lawyer, Tim Parlatore.

The alleged incident occurred after a California Federation of Republican Women event. Police reported bruises on the accuser but kept her identity confidential. Hegseth’s lawyer referenced video footage showing the two leaving together with arms linked, though consent could not be established by the footage. Hegseth eventually settled with the woman, stating he felt blackmailed but feared losing his job.

This controversy comes amid heightened scrutiny of Trump’s nominations, following past allegations against figures like Matt Gaetz and Trump’s own legal troubles involving sexual misconduct. Hegseth’s views opposing women in combat have also drawn criticism, potentially complicating his confirmation process.
