Former President Donald Trump reaffirmed his support for Pete Hegseth’s nomination as Secretary of Defense, calling him a “fantastic” and “high energy” leader on Truth Social. However, Hegseth faces mounting scrutiny over allegations of sexual assault, misogyny, and drinking on the job, which he denies as a smear campaign.
Hegseth has been lobbying senators on Capitol Hill for confirmation, including a meeting with Sen. Joni Ernst, who remains undecided. With the GOP’s narrow Senate majority, he can afford to lose only three Republican votes.
