Top U.S. defense officials released footage Thursday of bunker-buster bomb tests used in the weekend strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, aiming to counter leaked intelligence suggesting limited damage.
At a Pentagon press conference, Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Dan Caine described the video as the “culmination of over 15 years of development,” illustrating the capability of the 30,000-pound weapons dropped.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth criticized the leak of a preliminary Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) report indicating the strikes may have only delayed Iran’s nuclear program by months. “This is preliminary, leaked — because someone had an agenda,” Hegseth said, calling it an effort to “muddy the waters.”
President Trump echoed the criticism on Truth Social, claiming media reports were “FAKE” and predicting reporter firings.
While the leaked assessment was labeled “low confidence,” Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard later stated the sites had been “destroyed.” CIA Director John Ratcliffe also said Iran’s program was “severely damaged.”
Caine cautioned final analysis would take time but said early reviews showed “extremely severe damage” at all three sites.
