Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi revealed that some Republicans have privately told her that Democrats “have to beat” former President Trump in the upcoming election for politics to return to normal. Speaking with MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell, Pelosi criticized the GOP, saying it has been “hijacked” by a cult-like following under Trump and needs to be reclaimed.
Pelosi emphasized the importance of winning the election, noting that some Republicans admitted they cannot defeat Trump in the primary and hope Democrats will do so in the general election. She also reflected on her experiences during the Trump era, including the January 6 Capitol attack, which she details in her book, The Art of Power.
Pelosi denied reports that she pressured President Biden to step aside in favor of Vice President Harris, whom she recently endorsed with “immense pride.”
