Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi asserted that the violence of January 6, 2021, “didn’t end that day” and accused former President Donald Trump of fostering ongoing unrest. In an interview on Face the Nation, Pelosi linked the Capitol attack to a violent assault on her husband in 2022, saying he still suffers from a head injury caused by an intruder. She emphasized that public service should not endanger families.

Pelosi criticized Trump for pledging to pardon some January 6 rioters, calling him a “strange person.” While acknowledging his case-by-case approach, she urged Americans to reject election denialism. Referring to Trump’s persistent claims of victory in 2020, Pelosi said, “It’s almost sick… to fight a fight he knows he lost.”

Her remarks came as Congress prepared to certify Trump’s victory in the 2024 election, a stark contrast to the chaos following the 2020 results. Pelosi reiterated that Congress would uphold the certified 2024 results, calling for unity and truth.
