Over 200 former aides to the last three GOP presidential nominees before Donald Trump—George W. Bush, John McCain, and Mitt Romney—endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday. This group, most of whom endorsed President Biden in 2020, announced their support in a letter first reported by USA Today.
The letter highlighted that additional Bush alumni joined this cycle’s coalition, opposing Trump and supporting Harris. The signatories acknowledged their ideological differences with Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz but deemed Trump’s potential return to the presidency as “untenable.”
They criticized Trump’s leadership, particularly his association with Project 2025, warning of the harm it could bring to everyday Americans and democratic institutions globally. The group urged fellow Republicans to support candidates focused on consensus, not chaos and credited moderate Republicans and conservative independents for Biden’s 2020 victory.
The Harris campaign celebrated the endorsements, which followed the launch of the “Republicans for Harris” coalition. Last week, the Democratic National Convention featured GOP speakers, including former Rep. Adam Kinzinger and ex-Trump aides.
