SAN ANTONIO, TX — At least three migrant children were detained and zip-tied by federal agents at the San Antonio Immigration Court on Thursday, May 29, sparking alarm among immigration advocates and legal experts.
The children—two boys and a girl, estimated to be between 9 and 12 years old—were taken into custody alongside adult relatives shortly after their immigration cases were dismissed, according to multiple attorneys. The incident occurred at 800 Dolorosa Street and was caught on video by a local immigration lawyer attending an immigration law conference hosted by CLINIC, the Catholic Legal Immigration Network Inc.
“We’ve never seen them detain families or children like this,” said San Antonio attorney Guillermo Hernandez III. “It feels like it’s meant to instill fear.”
Advocates say the incident marks an escalation under Donald Trump‘s expanded immigration enforcement strategy. A recent policy shift now allows expedited removals and arrests in traditionally off-limits “sensitive places,” such as courthouses.
Officials with ICE and the FBI have not confirmed which agency was responsible. The children’s current status is unknown.
