Oklahoma Superintendent Ryan Walters announced Thursday that Bibles will be sent to all AP U.S. Government classrooms in the state, thanks to a partnership with singer Lee Greenwood.

After state lawmakers rejected his $3 million budget request to purchase Bibles for all classrooms, Walters turned to Greenwood, who agreed to donate copies of his “God Bless The USA Bibles.” The book includes the Constitution and Declaration of Independence alongside religious texts.

“The Bible is the most influential document in our nation’s history,” Greenwood posted on X, endorsing Walters’ initiative. Walters defended the move, saying it would “enrich students’ understanding of America’s core principles.”

The effort has drawn controversy, with critics accusing Walters of favoring the Trump-endorsed Bibles over other religious or historical texts. His initial 55,000-Bible request was amended after backlash and later canceled without explanation.

Walters is already facing a legal battle over mandating Bible lessons in Oklahoma schools. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is set to hear a case on whether the state can allow a religious charter school to operate.
