William Dunfee, a 59-year-old Ohio pastor, has been sentenced to 2.5 years in prison for his involvement in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. He was also ordered to pay a $10,000 fine, $2,000 in restitution, and will serve three years of supervised release. Dunfee was convicted of two felonies: obstruction of an official proceeding and civil disorder, as well as a misdemeanor for entering a restricted area.
Dunfee used social media to call for action before the riot, and on January 6, he used a bullhorn to encourage the crowd, stating, “Rise up. Today is the day.” He also pushed against metal barricades set by Capitol Police. More than 1,500 people have been charged in connection with the riot.
