Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem on Sunday, days after two Israeli Embassy staffers were fatally shot in Washington, D.C. President Donald Trump asked Noem to make the trip following the shooting.
“Hate will not have the last word,” Noem wrote on X. The Prime Minister’s office said she expressed “unwavering support” for Israel and praised Netanyahu’s handling of the Gaza war and border security. Others at the meeting included U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee and senior Israeli officials.
The visit follows the deaths of Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim, who were reportedly engaged. Their alleged killer shouted “Free, free Palestine” and faces five charges, including first-degree murder.
Noem also met with Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and visited the Western Wall. Meanwhile, tensions reportedly linger between Trump and Netanyahu over Israel’s Gaza campaign and Trump’s interest in reviving a nuclear deal with Iran.
