Joe Lieberman, the founding chairman of the centrist group No Labels, has described the organization’s effort to recruit a third-party candidate for the U.S. presidency as “daunting.” Despite facing challenges in attracting candidates, Lieberman remains hopeful, mentioning ongoing discussions with “a couple of quality candidates,” whose names he did not disclose. The decision on a potential nominee is expected to be made within the coming weeks.

Lieberman, a former Democratic senator who later became an independent, emphasized that while the group is determined to find a suitable candidate, there is a possibility, based on past experiences, that they might not succeed. Several candidates considered by No Labels, including notable Republicans Nikki Haley, Larry Hogan, and Geoff Duncan, along with Democrat Joe Manchin, have declined the opportunity.

To aid in the nomination process, No Labels has formed a 12-member panel, which includes Lieberman, tasked with recommending potential candidates for the third-party run.
