Former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley stated that Donald Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), need to change the way they speak about women. During an interview on “Fox & Friends,” Haley responded to a question about why Vice President Kamala Harris holds a 14-point lead over Trump among women. Haley attributed it to rhetoric, saying, “You don’t need to call Kamala dumb. She didn’t get this far by accident… She’s a prosecutor.”

Haley emphasized that even negative comments about Democratic women could alienate Republican women, advising Trump to focus on policies to win. In a separate interview with CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Haley addressed remarks by Vance, where he criticized a teacher’s union leader for not having children. She acknowledged that such comments were not helpful in appealing to female voters.

Both Trump and Vance have faced backlash over past comments about women. Vance, in particular, has been criticized for a 2021 remark about “childless cat ladies,” which he later described as sarcastic.
