Ahead of Election Day, eight-foot-high metal security fences have been installed around the White House, Capitol, and Vice President Harris’s residence in Washington, D.C., as a preventive measure for potential unrest, The Washington Post reports. The Secret Service also placed barriers around the White House, Treasury, and Lafayette Square, while Capitol Police deployed temporary bicycle-rack barriers labeled “Police Line: Do not cross.”
Additional security measures are planned in West Palm Beach, Florida, where former President Trump will host an Election Night event. Meanwhile, Vice President Harris will be at Howard University in D.C., where local police announced street closures, no-parking zones, and transit detours.
Officials state there are no specific threats in Washington but note the security measures are reminders of unrest during the 2020 election and the January 6 Capitol attack.
