A recent Quinnipiac University poll reveals a close race for the 2024 Presidential election, with President Joe Biden slightly leading former President Donald Trump. In a direct comparison, Biden garners 48% support to Trump’s 45%. This margin narrows from a February poll that showed Biden at 49% versus Trump’s 45%.
The inclusion of third-party and independent candidates reveals a potential challenge for Biden, as Trump edges ahead with 39% to Biden’s 38% when candidates such as Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Jill Stein, and Cornel West are considered. Kennedy Jr. attracts 13% of the support, Stein 4%, and West 3%.
Tim Malloy of Quinnipiac University highlighted the race’s competitiveness, especially with the third-party candidates’ involvement. The poll, conducted from March 21-25 among 1,407 registered voters, has a margin of error of ±2.6 percentage points.
This data arrives amid signs of a closely contested general election, with Biden improving his standing in key battleground states, including leading in Wisconsin. Additionally, Kennedy Jr.’s announcement of Nicole Shanahan as his running mate has sparked debate, with some Democrats expressing concern that his candidacy could inadvertently benefit the GOP.
