On Friday, Clark County District Court Judge Mary Kay Holthus dismissed the case against six false electors who claimed former President Donald Trump won the 2020 election. The judge ruled the case was filed in the wrong jurisdiction, as confirmed by the state attorney general’s office. The state plans to appeal the decision.
In December, a grand jury indicted six Republicans, including Nevada State Party GOP chair Michael McDonald and vice chair Jim DeGraffenreid, on felony charges related to offering a false instrument for filing and uttering a forged instrument. The alleged acts did not occur in Clark County, prompting the dismissal.
Attorneys for McDonald and Eileen Rice expressed confidence that the Nevada Supreme Court would uphold the dismissal. Similar fake elector schemes have led to charges in other states like Michigan, Georgia, and Wisconsin, with notable figures such as Rudy Giuliani also indicted in Arizona. In contrast, false electors in New Mexico and Pennsylvania have not been charged due to additional language in their certificates.
