Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) criticized conservative commentator Tucker Carlson on Wednesday for claiming the late activist Charlie Kirk shared Carlson’s skepticism of Israel. Posting on X, Cruz said, “I’m getting really tired of Tucker & his cronies falsely claiming ‘Charlie agreed with me that Israel is terrible & the problem in America is all the damn Jews.’” He added that his last conversation with Kirk focused on concern about rising antisemitism.
Carlson, in a recent video clip, said Kirk “did not like” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and often described him as destructive. He alleged Kirk believed Netanyahu used the United States for Israel’s wars, views Carlson himself has echoed. Carlson further suggested Kirk faced donor pressure tied to his pro-Israel stance.
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu rejected speculation from far-right figures, calling claims of Israeli involvement in Kirk’s death “false and disgusting.” He praised Kirk as “a giant… who loved Israel and the Jewish people.” Netanyahu shared that Kirk had recently written him a letter expressing joy in advocating for Israel and strengthening alliances to protect “Judeo-Christian civilization.”
Vice President J.D. Vance urged conservatives to pause disputes over Kirk’s legacy, noting, “Try to remember: a lot of people loved Charlie… save the debate for after his funeral.”
