A recent World Justice Project survey reveals that 46% of Republicans would not view the 2024 election as legitimate if a Democrat wins, while 14% indicated they might take steps to overturn such a result. Among Democrats, 27% would question a Republican victory’s legitimacy, with 11% saying they could attempt to challenge the outcome.

The survey, conducted in June with 1,046 respondents, highlighted widespread distrust in the electoral process, lingering from 2020. Only one-third of Republicans and two-thirds of Democrats trust election officials. However, 96% of both parties agree on the importance of the rule of law for the country’s future.

Elizabeth Andersen, the executive director of the World Justice Project, emphasized the need to rebuild trust in U.S. election integrity ahead of the 2024 election.
