A new NBC News poll shows that nearly half of American voters believe President Donald Trump favors Russia over Ukraine, as his administration works to broker a peace deal between the two countries.
Only 8% of respondents said they believe Trump supports Ukraine, while 61% personally back Ukraine in the war. Two percent said they are more sympathetic to Russia, and 35% favor neither side. About one-third of respondents said they think Trump is neutral, a position he has emphasized.
“I’m not aligned with anybody. I’m aligned with the United States of America, and for the good of the world,” Trump said last month.
The poll comes as Trump prepares to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday. He told reporters aboard Air Force One that significant progress has been made in peace talks and hinted at a possible announcement.
The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted March 7-11, with a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points.
