NASA employees are now required to remove pronouns from emails and internal platforms, according to an all-staff email obtained by NPR. The directive follows executive orders, including one titled “Defending Women from Gender Ideology and Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government,” signed by President Trump on his first day in office.

The email states that NASA has disabled features in Microsoft Outlook and Teams that allowed users to display pronouns, automatically removing them this week. It also mandates a standardized email signature without personal additions.

The independent outlet 404 Media reported that NASA employees were also ordered to remove terms like “Indigenous people” and “women in leadership” from public-facing materials. Additionally, NASA’s acting administrator previously announced the end of all DEI programs.
