Just days after launching her bid for South Carolina governor, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) pledged support for banning “chemtrails” and removing fluoride from drinking water if elected.

Speaking at a town hall, Mace responded to an audience question on fluoride by saying, “I would support any action to remove fluoride from our water and also ban chemtrails.” She further claimed that states such as Florida and Tennessee had already passed similar measures and said South Carolina should follow their lead.

However, those states have not banned “chemtrails”—a term rooted in conspiracy theory alleging aircraft release harmful chemicals into the air. Instead, they passed laws regulating geoengineering and weather modification practices. Florida’s Senate Bill 56, for example, targets cloud seeding and other interventions, imposing fines and prison sentences for unauthorized activity.

Mace’s comments position her as the first major political figure to endorse a chemtrail ban, injecting controversial rhetoric into the 2026 Republican primary. She launched her campaign Monday at her alma mater, The Citadel, in Charleston.
