Elon Musk appeared to step back from his explosive feud with Donald Trump on Wednesday, posting on X that some of his recent attacks on the president “went too far.” The 3:04 a.m. tweet followed days of escalating personal and political insults that rattled markets and drew global attention.
The feud erupted over Trump’s controversial “One, Big, Beautiful Bill,” which Musk warned could explode the national deficit. The billionaire CEO had accused Trump of betrayal, publicly called for his impeachment, and even claimed he was “in the Epstein files.”
Trump retaliated by threatening Musk’s lucrative federal contracts and suggesting the Tesla CEO had “gone crazy” and might be struggling with depression or substance use. Despite the harsh rhetoric, Trump added, “I just wish him well. Very well, actually.”
Musk’s companies lost billions in value during the spat, though Tesla futures rebounded sharply after his conciliatory message.
While Musk hasn’t renounced his support for Trump’s key policies — including immigration crackdowns and DOGE’s cost-cutting initiatives — the détente suggests political pragmatism prevailed.
