Elon Musk reignited calls Monday for a new political party, slamming President Trump’s $5 trillion tax and spending package as “insane” and “political suicide” for the GOP. The Senate is racing toward a final vote on the reconciliation bill, which the Congressional Budget Office says will increase the deficit by nearly $3.3 trillion through 2034.
Musk, once Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) chief, posted on X that “we live in a one-party country — the PORKY PIG PARTY!!” and said it’s time for “a new political party that actually cares about the people.”
He has floated forming “The America Party” to represent centrists and criticized House Freedom Caucus leaders Andy Harris and Chip Roy for supporting the bill: “How can you call yourself the Freedom Caucus if you vote for a DEBT SLAVERY bill?”
The White House is pushing for a final vote by Friday. The bill’s spending cuts and tax breaks have triggered fierce debate and exposed growing rifts within the Republican Party.
