Tensions escalated within Donald Trump‘s political orbit this weekend after former ally Elon Musk demanded the release of the long-rumored Jeffrey Epstein client list. The renewed call came amid mounting outrage from Trump’s base over the administration’s decision to close the investigation without releasing new names.
“He said ‘Epstein’ half a dozen times while telling everyone to stop talking about Epstein,” Musk wrote in response to Trump’s Truth Social post defending Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel. “Just release the files as promised.”
The Department of Justice and FBI concluded last week that Epstein died by suicide and no client list exists — findings that contradicted earlier suggestions by Bondi, Patel, and Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino.
Musk, who previously claimed Trump was in the Epstein files, later deleted the posts and issued an apology. Still, his remarks reignited calls from within the MAGA movement for greater transparency.
Trump attempted to downplay the controversy Saturday, calling the case a distraction. “Let’s not waste time and energy on Jeffrey Epstein, somebody that nobody cares about,” he wrote.
The backlash, however, shows no signs of subsiding.
