Elon Musk, tech billionaire and owner of the social platform X, stated Sunday that Nigel Farage should not lead the Reform U.K. party. “The Reform Party needs a new leader,” Musk posted, adding that Farage “doesn’t have what it takes.”
Musk has recently commented on U.K. politics, including calling for the release of Tommy Robinson, a far-right activist and founder of the English Defense League. Robinson is serving an 18-month sentence for violating a court order regarding libel against a Syrian refugee.
Farage responded on X, calling Musk’s comment “a surprise” and asserting his disagreement. He added, “Tommy Robinson is not right for Reform, and I never sell out my principles.” Farage also told Sky News he opposes Robinson’s membership in the party.
Earlier, Musk praised Farage’s party, claiming it could “save Britain.” Musk also criticized U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer on social media, focusing on his tenure as director of public prosecutions and handling of grooming scandals. Musk wrote, “Who was head of the CPS when rape gangs exploited young girls without justice? Keir Starmer, 2008-2013.”
This marks an unusual series of interventions by Musk into U.K. political affairs.
