Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) condemned Elon Musk’s endorsement of Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, often criticized as neo-Nazi, ahead of the country’s February elections. Musk posted on X, “only the AfD can save Germany,” sparking backlash in the U.S. and Germany.

Murphy called Musk’s statement “not normal,” while former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) labeled Musk a “drug-addled billionaire.” German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also criticized Musk’s remarks, stating free speech includes the right to give bad advice.

Controversially, AfD leader Björn Höcke has downplayed Nazi crimes and criticized Berlin’s Holocaust memorial as a “monument of shame.”

The endorsement comes as Germany prepares for elections following the collapse of Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s government.
