The fragile ceasefire in Gaza ended Tuesday as Israel launched a massive wave of airstrikes across the strip, killing more than 400 people, according to the Hamas-controlled Health Ministry. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the strikes, stating they were carried out “in accordance with the political echelon” and targeted Hamas leadership and military infrastructure.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the ceasefire collapsed after Hamas refused to release hostages and rejected all proposals put forth by U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff, Qatar, and Egypt. The Trump administration had attempted to extend the truce, but last week’s negotiations in Doha failed. According to Israeli officials, the White House was briefed in advance about the strikes.

Netanyahu’s office announced that military operations would intensify, while Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned, “If Hamas does not release all the hostages, the gates of Hell will open in Gaza.” The war, which began after Hamas’ October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, has resulted in more than 48,000 Palestinian deaths, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
