A focus group of Michigan swing voters who backed President Donald Trump in November expressed frustration and fear over his actions since returning to office, according to an Engagious/Sago study released Thursday.

Of the 13 participants, 10 said Trump’s approach isn’t what they expected and feared his tariffs, mass layoffs, and aggressive policies could hurt the economy. Descriptions like “erratic,” “frightening,” and “dictator” were used to describe their concerns.

Many cited economic anxieties:

  • A home remodeler worried tariffs would raise wood prices and hurt business.
  • An auto worker was recently furloughed, saying “we’re not building cars right now.”
  • A small business owner serving auto industry clients feared financial devastation.

Some voters were unsettled by Trump’s “long live the king” remark and his freeze on Associated Press reporters over their refusal to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America.

However, only one of the 10 disillusioned voters said they would vote for Vice President Kamala Harris if given a do-over, with many preferring to “grin and bear” Trump for another term.

The study is not a poll but highlights growing voter skepticism as Trump implements sweeping changes.
