A newly revealed memo from April 2024 shows Joe Biden was strongly advised by top aides to debate Donald Trump early in the election season to maximize voter exposure. The six-page strategy document, now featured in the upcoming book 2024: How Trump Retook the White House and the Democrats Lost America, emphasized staging a spring debate to avoid conflicts with summer conventions, the Olympics, and early voting in battleground states.

Biden’s team outlined a three-part preparation strategy, including public Q&As, town halls, and a five-day intensive session at Camp David. However, not all allies agreed. One donor warned against a debate after Biden’s poor appearance at a Chicago fundraiser, urging aides to “find an excuse” to cancel.

Despite warnings, Biden debated Trump on June 27, delivering a shaky performance that deepened concerns about his age and led to Kamala Harris replacing him as the Democratic nominee. Harris ultimately lost to Trump.

The book also highlights renewed Republican scrutiny over Biden’s use of an autopen and Hunter Biden’s influence in the White House.
