Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev celebrated President Donald Trump’s tense Oval Office meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, calling it a “proper slap down.”

“The insolent pig finally got a proper slap down in the Oval Office,” Medvedev, now deputy chair of Russia’s security council, wrote on X. He also agreed with Trump’s warning that Ukraine is “gambling with World War III.”

The meeting, originally planned to finalize a minerals deal, spiraled into a heated exchange, with Vice President J.D. Vance calling Zelensky “disrespectful” and Trump raising his voice at the Ukrainian leader.

Zelensky challenged Vance’s suggestion of negotiating with Vladimir Putin, citing Russia’s history of broken ceasefires and continued attacks. Trump dismissed Zelensky’s warning that the U.S. had yet to fully experience the war’s impact, snapping, “Don’t tell us what we’re going to feel.”

After the meeting, Trump declared that Zelensky is “not ready for peace”, hinting at a breakdown in future talks. Zelensky left the White House shortly afterward.
