McDonald’s announced changes to its diversity practices, influenced by the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2023 ruling against affirmative action in college admissions. The company plans to retire specific diversity goals for senior leadership and end a supplier program promoting diversity training and minority leadership. Additionally, McDonald’s will pause external surveys, following similar moves by companies like Lowe’s and Ford.
Despite these adjustments, McDonald’s emphasized its commitment to inclusion, noting that 30% of its U.S. leaders are from underrepresented groups and it has achieved gender pay equity since 2021. The company pledged ongoing support for diverse employees, suppliers, and franchisees, along with continued demographic reporting.
The changes reflect what McDonald’s calls a “shifting legal landscape” post-Supreme Court ruling and follow similar actions by Walmart, John Deere, and others in scaling back diversity programs.
