Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell confirmed that Republicans will keep the filibuster if they secure a Senate majority in 2025, blocking Democratic proposals to eliminate it for measures like codifying abortion rights. McConnell, who plans to step down as GOP leader in January, expects Republicans to hold at least 52 Senate seats, with Vice President-elect JD Vance as a potential tie-breaking vote. The Senate Leadership Fund’s $425 million helped the GOP gain seats in key states.

McConnell avoided discussing areas where he and President-elect Trump disagree, such as Ukraine aid, which could affect Trump’s agenda with a Republican-led Senate.
