New York City Mayor Eric Adams will meet with President-elect Donald Trump on Friday at Mar-a-Lago, just days before Trump’s inauguration. Adams, indicted on five federal corruption charges in September, has grown closer to Trump, echoing his “rigged justice system” rhetoric.
Deputy Mayor Fabien Levy stated that Adams aims to discuss New Yorkers’ priorities, emphasizing the importance of federal partnership for the city’s success. The meeting, however, was not on Adams’ public schedule.
Trump has expressed support for Adams, even hinting at a possible pardon during the Manhattan Al Smith Dinner in September, where he compared their legal challenges.
Adams’ indictment involves allegations of accepting improper donations, discounted travel, and public fund fraud. He denies the charges, calling them baseless and politically motivated.
With his trial set for April and plummeting poll numbers, Adams faces challenges ahead of the June Democratic primary, where former Governor Andrew Cuomo leads in popularity.
