Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) participated in protests outside the Supreme Court on Wednesday during its review of U.S. v. Skrmetti, a case challenging Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming medical care for minors. Protesters on both sides gathered as Greene held a sign reading, “There are two genders: male and female.”
Greene spoke to reporters, stating, “Kids are innocent; they need to be left alone,” while expressing her hope that the court would uphold Tennessee’s law. She was confronted by a heckler who called her a “monster” and shouted over her remarks.
Greene also discussed her proposed Protect Children’s Innocence Act, which would make gender-affirming surgeries and care for minors a felony. The legislation remains stalled since its introduction in March 2022.
U.S. v. Skrmetti is the first Supreme Court case centered on transgender medical procedures.
