Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) criticized House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) on Tuesday for failing to present a Republican health care alternative as the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and its tax subsidies near expiration at year’s end. In a post on X, Greene said Johnson offered “pages of policy ideas” but no concrete proposal during a recent GOP conference call.

“I demanded to know from Speaker Johnson what the Republican plan for health care is to build the off-ramp off Obamacare,” Greene wrote. “Apparently I have to go into a SCIF to find out the Republican health care plan!”

Greene’s remarks come amid an ongoing government shutdown and growing concern over the potential loss of ACA subsidies that keep premiums low for millions of Americans. Johnson has said House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) is working with key committees to craft a plan.

Even Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) backed Greene’s call to act, saying she was “absolutely right” about the urgency of addressing health care costs. A recent PerryUndem poll found 69% of Americans believe health care remains unaffordable.
