Marjorie Taylor Greene admitted she voted for Donald Trump’s tax and spending bill without reading a provision that would block state regulation of artificial intelligence for 10 years. Greene now says she would have voted “NO” had she known about the language hidden on pages 278–279 of the “One Big Beautiful Bill.”

The bill’s AI provision would override state and local laws concerning facial recognition, automated hiring tools, and other AI systems. It was inserted shortly before markup and caught Greene and other Republicans off guard. “I am adamantly OPPOSED to this,” she wrote on X.

Democrats, who uniformly opposed the bill, blasted Greene. Rep. Eric Swalwell wrote, “You have one job. To. Read. The. F—ing. Bill.” Others echoed frustration, calling her vote reckless and uninformed.

Greene urged the Senate to remove the AI provision. Meanwhile, Trump ally Elon Musk called the entire bill a “disgusting abomination” that would explode the deficit.

The bill also faces criticism for cutting healthcare and food assistance programs.
