At a campaign rally for former President Trump in Las Vegas, far-right Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene compared Trump to Jesus Christ, drawing sharp criticism. Greene, known for her frequent references to her Christian faith, attempted to counteract Democratic efforts to highlight Trump’s status as a convicted felon following his recent conviction in a case involving hush money payments and falsified business records.

Greene told the crowd, “The man that I worship is also a convicted felon. And he was murdered on a Roman cross.” This comparison did not sit well with many. On social media, reactions were swift and critical, with comments like, “Did Jesus pay off a pornstar and cover it up?” California Congressman Adam Schiff sarcastically remarked, “Definitely not a cult.”

Greene has previously drawn parallels between Trump and historical martyr figures, including Jesus and Nelson Mandela. In April last year, after Trump’s arrest on corruption charges, she likened him to both Mandela and Jesus, claiming, “There have been many people throughout history that have been arrested and persecuted by radical, corrupt governments… He’s done nothing wrong.”

Trump himself has embraced similar comparisons, with supporters circulating images depicting him alongside Christ-like figures and Trump sharing such imagery on his Truth Social site. Celebrities like Jon Voight have also reinforced this narrative, suggesting that Trump, like Jesus, has been targeted for his mission to “save the American dream.” This rhetoric starkly contrasts with President Joe Biden’s approach, who urges voters to compare him with Trump rather than likening himself to any divine figure.
