A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Alejandro Barranco, is speaking out after witnessing viral footage of his undocumented father, Narciso Barranco, being beaten by U.S. Border Patrol agents in Santa Ana, California. Narciso, 48, who immigrated from Mexico in the 1990s, was tackled and struck during an immigration arrest outside an IHOP.
Barranco, now in ICE custody in Los Angeles, reportedly cried in pain during a phone call to his son. DHS claimed he resisted arrest, swung a weed trimmer at officers, and fled across a busy intersection. Officials said agents used “minimum force,” but video shows one officer repeatedly striking Barranco’s head while he screamed on the ground.
Alejandro, who helped evacuate allies from Afghanistan in 2021, said the actions contradicted his military training and were excessive. All three of Barranco’s sons have served in the military.
Santa Ana Councilmember Johnathan Hernandez has called for an investigation. Protests have emerged amid broader scrutiny of Donald Trump‘s immigration crackdown, which includes deploying federal forces across California.
