Marianne Williamson, self-help author and two-time presidential candidate, declared her candidacy for chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC). In an open letter to DNC members, Williamson outlined her vision to reshape the party, emphasizing inclusivity, listening to citizens, and advocating for working-class Americans.
Williamson pledged to “reinvent the party from the inside out,” aiming to inspire voters with a renewed sense of patriotism and commitment to Democratic values. She called for humility and self-reflection within the party, highlighting the need for significant change to win future elections.

The DNC will elect its new leadership during the winter meeting on February 1, 2024, preceded by four candidate forums in January. Williamson urged members to support her participation in these events through a petition.

She joins a competitive race that includes former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley, Minnesota Democratic leader Ken Martin, and Wisconsin Democratic Party Chair Ben Wikler. Current DNC Chair Jaime Harrison is not seeking reelection.

Williamson previously ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020 and 2024, suspending her latest campaign after the primaries ended in June.
