Several prominent MAGA figures broke ranks with Donald Trump on Monday after he accepted a $400 million private jet from the Qatari government ahead of his Middle East visit. Critics, including Ben Shapiro, Laura Loomer, and Mark Levin, voiced outrage over Trump’s growing ties to Qatar, which some allege funds Hamas.
Trump dismissed the backlash, calling it “stupid” to reject such a high-value gift. But the move rattled pro-Israel conservatives. “We cannot accept a $400 million ‘gift’ from jihadists in suits,” Loomer said. Shapiro warned the optics resemble those that Republicans once condemned involving Hunter and Joe Biden. “If you want Trump to succeed, this kind of skeezy stuff needs to stop,” he said.
Levin and others pointed to Qatar’s support for the Muslim Brotherhood and Al Jazeera, questioning the alignment with “America First” values.
While some MAGA commentators treaded lightly, the episode revealed rare fractures within Trump’s base as Democrats press for investigations into the jet and related crypto dealings.
